It is not permitted to install WinCC V15.1 in parallel to versions WinCC previous to WinCC V7.0 SP2. It is also not permitted to install WinCC V15.1 in parallel to WinCC V7.0 SP2 or WinCC V7.0 SP3 for:

  • WinCC V15.1 Professional
  • WinCC V15.1 Runtime Professional

Note on WinCC and WinCC flexible

  • You cannot install WinCC and WinCC (TIA Portal) at the same time on one and the same computer.

3. Opening projects from earlier versions of STEP 7 (TIA Portal)

In TIA Portal V15.1 the STEP 7 Professional / Basic project is automatically upgraded to V15.1 when opened if you have created the project with TIA Portal V13 SP1 (or higher). Projects from earlier versions of TIA Portal first have to be stored and compiled in one of those versions. More information is available in Entry ID: 109476392.

4. Compatibility with projects from STEP 7 V5.4 and V5.5

Using the "Project > Migrate Project..." function in STEP 7 (TIA Portal) V15.1 you can migrate projects created with STEP 7 V5.5 and higher or STEP 7 Professional 2010 and higher to STEP 7 (TIA Portal) V15.1. The STEP 7 projects that contain a configuration with WinCC or WinCC flexible can also be migrated to the TIA Portal V15.1 with the included WinCC flexible parts. Included configurations created with WinCC V7.0+SP2 or lower are currently not migrated as well. The following components must be installed on your computer for this:

  • STEP 7 V5.5 and higher

  • WinCC V7.0+SP2 and higher or WinCC flexible 2008+SP2 and higher

More information is available in the manual of STEP 7 (TIA Portal) under Migrate Projects and Programs.

Note
You cannot migrate WinCC V7.0+SP1 or lower.

7. Uninstallation of WinCC (TIA Portal) Professional

If installation of STEP 7 (TIA Portal) aborts and you receive the message that you must uninstall an earlier version of WinCC Professional beforehand even though you have already done the uninstallation, this might be due to a Registry code. Proceed as follows to remove the Registry entry in Windows 7, for example:

  1. In Windows 7 you open the Registry by going to "Search programs and files" and entering "Regedit" and confirm with Enter.

  2. Open the path:

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Siemens\Automation\_InstalledSW\TIAP11\TIA_ES_V11\PrivateProperties\INST_TYPE_LEVEL_INTERNAL"

Remove the item "4_0_Professional". Do a restart and then you can install STEP 7 (TIA Portal) V15.
