Delivery Release for SIMATIC Maintenance Station PDM V1.0

  • Entry
  • Associated product(s)

The SIMATIC Maintenance Station PDM V1.0 is herewith released for delivery. It is designed as single station and expands the existing and proven Maintenance Stations for SIMATIC and SIMATIC PCS 7 with a independent product variant. The Maintenance Station PDM V1.0 can be used in a stand-alone configuration in conjunction with SIMATIC or SIMATIC PCS 7 and works independently of the automation projects and the associated automation controllers. It combines the mechanisms for diagnosis of EDD-based field devices and the network topology representation of SIMATIC PDM with the functions of the SIMATIC PCS 7 Maintenance Station.

1 Product placement and application

Until now, dedicated Maintenance Stations were available for SIMATIC and SIMATIC PCS 7, which are optimized for the integration into the system-specific automation projects:

  • SIMATIC Maintenance Station for the integration into STEP 7 projects for manufacturing automation
  • SIMATIC PCS 7 Maintenance Station for the integration into PCS 7 projects for process automation

Both systems obtain their information straight from the automation project and are directly connected to the HMI / Operator System.

In contrast to the above product variants, the SIMATIC Maintenance Station PDM V1.0 works independently of the automation projects and the automation controllers used. The SIMATIC Maintenance Station PDM V1.0 therefore does not focus on a particular automation solution, but is generally suited for all projects in which communication forms and field devices with Electronic Device Description (EDD) supported by SIMATIC PDM V6.1 are used.

The following tasks represent the focus of possible applications for the SIMATIC Maintenance Station PDM V1.0:

  • Monitoring, parameterization, diagnosis and maintenance of field devices described by a EDD/DD
  • Small to medium projects relating to a SIMATIC Maintenance Station PDM
  • Several SIMATIC Maintenance Stations PDM for one automation project
  • Maintenance stations for individual plant sections or isolated applications
  • Maintenance Station retrofits in SIMATIC S7 / SIMATIC PCS 7 projects independent of the project version
  • SIMATIC S7 / SIMATIC PCS 7 projects without the "plant-wide data record routing" functionality
  • Separation between technological project and maintenance project:
    • SIMATIC Maintenance Station PDM is not a part of the automation project
    • Operators of the SIMATIC Maintenance Station PDM have no access to the engineering of the technological project
  • Projects without SIMATIC S7 /SIMATIC PCS 7 automation systems (controllers)

2 Design and communication

2.1 Hardware

The SIMATIC Maintenance Station PDM V1.0 is based on a SIMATIC IPC427C (Microbox) with Windows XP Professional operating system. A mouse, keyboard and process monitor are required in addition for operator input and control.

The technical data of the Microbox SIMATIC IPC427C are as follows:

Processor: Intel Pentium Core 2 Duo 1.2 GHz, 800 MHz  Front Side Bus
Memory: 2-GByte DDR3-SDRAM 1066 SO-DIMM module
Internal drive: 1 x 2.5" SATA-HDD, 250 GByte
USB ports: 4 x USB 2.0/High Speed
Monitor connection: 1 x DVI-I (DVI/VGA combined)
Power supply: 24 V DC

2.2 Software

The SIMATIC Maintenance Station PDM V1.0 is based on the following software components from SIMATIC PCS 7 and SIMATIC PDM:

  • Compact, reduced SIMATIC PCS 7 software package based on SIMATIC PCS 7 V7.1+SP3
  • SIMATIC PDM V6.1 for stand-alone operation
  • EDD Device Library 01#2011
  • WinAC RTX 2010

Please note:
This software does not enable you to configure and run technological automation functions or I/Os on the WinAC RTX 2010 software controller of the SIMATIC Maintenance Station PDM V1.0.

2.3 Communication

The SIMATIC Maintenance Station PDM V1.0 makes use of the communication paths of SIMATIC PDM for the communication with the field devices/components. Field devices with the following communication interfaces can be monitored by the SIMATIC Maintenance Station PDM V1.0:

  • Industrial Ethernet
  • PROFIBUS DP
  • PROFIBUS PA
  • HART on PROFIBUS
  • HART-Multiplexer

The internal interfaces of the Microbox SIMATIC IPC427C can be used for the construction of the communication network:

  • 1 x PROFIBUS, 12 Mbit/s (CP 5611-compatible)
  • 2 x Ethernet, 10/100/1000 Mbit/s

3 Function and configuration features

The SIMATIC Maintenance Station PDM V1.0 has the following function and configuration features:

  • Implemented as Single Station
  • Creation of a separate communication infrastructure on the basis of the process device network view of SIMATIC PDM
  • No interference in the configuration and cyclic communication of the existing automation system
  • Reading of diagnostic information and reading/writing of parameterization data via low-priority, non-cyclic read/write services of SIMATIC PDM, in line with the specification of the communication used
  • Global updating of the diagnostic information for all objects in a cycle that can be adjusted by the user (min. 24 h)
  • In only a few steps: Creation of the user interfaces and data objects for the SIMATIC Maintenance Station PDM on the basis of the process device network view of SIMATIC PDM
  • The core functions of the SIMATIC Maintenance Station PDM correspond to the SIMATIC PCS 7 Maintenance Station V7.1+SP3, a.o.:
    • Status creation / message generation in compliance with NAMUR recommendations (NE 107)
    • Collection of device-specific diagnostic information of field devices
    • Collection of identity data (electronic type label) of field devices
    • Recognition of changes in the monitored field devices
    • Representation of overview and detail images
    • Filter functions for the status information of the field devices
    • Filter functions for the identity data of the field devices

  • SIMATIC Maintenance Station PDM is optionally expandable with additional functions / components from the spectrum of SIMATIC PCS 7 Maintenance Station V7.1+SP3, a.o.:
    • TAG/PO options for quantitative license expansion, which are counted and valuated in the same way as with the SIMATIC PCS 7 Maintenance Station:
      • SIMATIC Maintenance Station Runtime - cumulable licenses for 100 and 1 000 Asset TAGs
      • SIMATIC PDM PowerPacks
      • SIMATIC PCS 7 PowerPacks AS/OS
    • Monitoring of IPC or PC stations with the help of SNMP-OPC communication
    • Monitoring of Industrial Ethernet/PROFINET network components with the help of SNMP-OPC communication
    • SIMATIC PCS 7 Archive
    • SIMATIC PDM option "Communication via Standard HART Multiplexer"
    • Components for integration in existing SIMATIC/SIMATIC PCS 7 plant configurations, e. g. IE/PB Link PN IO for the gateway between Industrial Ethernet and PROFIBUS

4 Device integration

SIMATIC PDM integrates intelligent field devices (sensors / actuators) and field components (remote I/Os, multiplexers, control-room devices, compact controllers, etc.) via their Electronic Device Description ( EDD). The integration is effected via the function "Manage device library" of SIMATIC PDM. EDDs released for SIMATIC PDM V6.1 can be integrated at any time, independently of the supplied Device Description Library.

Please note:
For legal reasons the user must manually import the Device Description Library upon initial commissioning of the SIMATIC Maintenance Station PDM, or when restoring the installation.

5 Form of delivery

The SIMATIC Maintenance Station PDM V1.0 is supplied in the form of a SIMATIC IPC427C with pre-installed software and a license for 100 Asset TAGs. The scope of supply includes two USB sticks. One of the sticks includes the required licenses, the other the restore software to restore the delivery status, as well as the Device Library 1#2011.
