Getting there faster – with the Finishing Toolbox applications
With its Finishing Toolbox, Siemens offers a library with tried-and-tested blocks with which individual automation solutions can be quickly and reliably created, specifically for applications in the textile industry.
The Finishing Toolbox contains standardized functions and is executable on the automation platforms SIMOTION, SIMATIC and SINAMICS depending on the availability of the application. The open source modules can be adapted to special customer requirements at any time. This allows you to rely on fully functional solutions and tested know-how - perfectly documented and tested in advance. The Finishing Toolbox considerably simplifies applications for processing fabric webs and opens up new scopes for pricing and scheduling. It contains open, parameterizable modules that can also be optimally combined with the Safety Integrated functions of SINAMICS S120. You can quickly implement perfectly tailored solutions from these ready-made functions and applications.

   Electronic Gearbox 


The Electronic Gearbox application implements synchronous gear synchronism between several axes with a freely selectable gearbox ratio.
It can be used universally for continuous fabric webs. With the Electronic Gearbox application, two or more axes can be operated without mechanical coupling in exact gear synchronism.
The application is suitable for continuous webs of textile fabric and nonwovens as well as for fibres and threads. 



   Separate Chain 

The Separate Chain application was specially developed for controlling the transport chain drives in stenter frames. The two chains guide the fabric web in electronic synchronism through the machine to achieve an alignment of the fabric web that is accurate to the thread. The drives are divided into master and slave drives. In addition to synchronization, the slave axis can build up or reduce a position offset from the master axis during operation in order to correct synchronization.



    Tension Control 

The web tension control application was developed with the target of providing a flexible and parameterizable solution for tension or dancer control tasks. In general, a tension control system consists of a motor, the material web and optionally a measurement system for tension detection or tension adjustment (dancer). The motor is controlled in the system so that the tension in the material web is constant. The application is suitable for web materials in the textile industry.








The application can be used as a rewinder or unwinder for various applications, e.g. also in textile machines.

The following winder functionalities are available:

  • Control modes: Dancer position control with speed correction, tension control with torque limitation, tension control with speed correction and torque control (indirect tension control)
  • Integrated diameter calculation through the ratio of web speed and winding speed
  • Optional: reduction of tension for rewinders (winding hardness characteristic curve)
  • Torque pre-control (tension, inertia compensation, friction)








Coupled axes are used on numerous machines. The coupling can be rigid (direct) or flexible (through the material). In these cases, the load must be distributed between the coupled drives.

The load sharing application offers the following methods for this purpose:

  • Torque coupling
  • Overload and torque limitation
  • Statics and compensation

  • Energy efficiency
  • Reduced heat generation



   Setpoint Cascade 

The Setpoint cascade application is used to calculate a velocity cascade in the drive. It is designed for larger production lines with several drives.
The setpoint cascade application consists of the function modules system ramp-function generator and setpoint cascade. The system ramp-function generator works as a central ramp-function generator for the entire production line and is connected to the higher-level controller. Communication with the PLC takes place via PROFIBUS or PROFINET. For cascade control, a separate setpoint cascade is used for each drive.
