PC-based Automation: S7-1500 Software Controller or WinAC RTX in Combination with Drive Control, Safety, Database Connection and Visualization with TIA Portal

This extensive application example uses a transport solution with rotary table to illustrate various functions and options of SIMATIC S7-1500 Software Controller.
You want to solve a controller task for a compact machine with only one HW-platform: for example a conveyor task with drive control, database connection, visualization and safety requirements.

Solution
With the PC-based PLC S7-Software Controller or WinAC RTX F complete automation tasks can be realized with only one automation device. The advantage is that beside PLC programs also drive control, database connection, visualization, and even safety functionality can be used together at only one Open Controller or IPC. The same engineering that is used for S7-1500 F can also be used for S7-1500 F Software Controller and WinAC RTX F. Therefore the same programs of S7-1500 can be used on S7-1500 Software Controller and WinAC RTX F.

This easy example shows different functions and possibilities of WinAC:

  • PLC programming with STEP 7 Professional (TIA Portal)
  • visualization with S7-1500 F Software Controller or WinAC RTX F and WinCC Runtime Advanced
  • communication between S7-1500 F Software Controller or WinAC RTX F and SINAMICS G120
  • PROFIsafe communication between WinAC RTX F and SINAMICS G120
  • safety functions with S7-1500 F Software Controller or WinAC RTX F and ET 200SP
  • database communication with WinCC Runtime Advanced
  • security functions against unauthorized access

On a conveyor belt, different packages are transported to a rotary table. The packages are identified on the conveyor belt. All package types and respective destination conveyors are stored in a database. This database is polled to receive the destination for the packages. The package is then positioned on the rotary table. The rotary table is set in motion and transports the package to the destination conveyor. The positions are approached using BEROs. After the package has arrived on the destination conveyor, the rotary table moves back to the input conveyor. The process then starts again.
