Description
The SCALANCE W700 M12 devices are designed for setup without control cabinet indoors.

This entry shows accessory components you can use to connect antennas to a SCALANCE W 700 M12. There are antennas which can be mounted directly as well as external antennas which have one, two or three connections.

1. Standard connection without lightning protector

1.1. Antennas for direct mounting
Table 01 shows SCALANCE W700 M12 devices with N-Connect sockets for connecting external antennas.
The antennas in Table 01 can be connected directly to the SCALANCE W700 M12.

1.2. Antenna with one connection
Depending on the application, you can connect one to three external antennas per RF interface to the SCALANCE W700 M12 device. Table 02 shows SCALANCE W700 M12 devices with N-Connect sockets for connecting external antennas.
The unused antenna outputs on the SCALANCE W700 M12 must be terminated with a TI795-1N terminator.

1.3. Antenna with two connections
Antennas with two connections combine two separate antennas set at 90° to each other in a single antenna housing. With these antennas two data streams can be transferred simultaneously through the two different polarization levels.
Table 03 shows SCALANCE W700 M12 devices with N-Connect sockets for connecting external antennas.
The unused antenna outputs on the SCALANCE W700 M12 must be terminated with a TI795-1N terminator.

1.4. Antenna with three connections
Antennas with three connections have three separate transmitters in a single antenna housing, which have either different polarization levels (0°, +/-45°) or are set at adequate distances from each other in a single housing.
The so-called MIMO antennas transmit three data streams simultaneously using multi-channel propagation. You need the IWLAN adapter cables QMA/N-Connect Male/Female and three IWLAN antenna connector cables for connecting the antennas to a SCALANCE W700 M12 device.
Table 04 shows SCALANCE W700 M12 devices with N-Connect sockets for connecting external antennas.

2. Connection with lightning protector

You should pay attention to the lightning and overvoltage protection of the devices depending on the individual application cases.

  • Lightning protectors protect terminal devices against overvoltage as part of a comprehensive lightning protection concept. These can be direct or direct lightning hits, but also other overvoltage events in a plant.
  • A lightning protector must be connected to protective ground in the shortest way over a wide area.
  • A lightning protector should therefore always be mounted close to the terminal device. This prevents an overvoltage from looping between lightning protector and terminal device. However, direct mounting on the terminal device is not recommended because of the high discharge currents to the protective ground.

2.1. Antenna with one connection
Depending on the application, you can connect one to three external antennas per RF interface to the SCALANCE W700 M12 device. Table 05 shows SCALANCE W700 M12 devices with N-Connect sockets for connecting external antennas.
The unused antenna outputs on the SCALANCE W700 M12 must be terminated with a TI795-1N terminator.
