The topic of “fault tolerance” comprises a number of application options, including the field level as well as the connection to the management level. Your task as a user is to use the respective hardware components to set up a configuration which solves your automation task and meets the requirements regarding availability in the best way possible.

Solution
As of V6.0 for the H-CPUs, PROFINET can now also be used as field bus.

This opens a number of connection possibilities, varying more or less regarding complexity and application case.

This gives you an overview of the configurations which can be realized with PROFINET. All previous statements on the realization with PROFIBUS remain unchanged.
