Reading and Writing RFID data with SIMATIC RF200 IO-Link readers and SIMATIC S7 controllers

  • Entry
  • Associated product(s)
In order to realize simple identification jobs, the RF200 readers are available in an interface variant for IO-Link. Using this standardized interface it becomes particularly easy and economical to automatically integrate the read data from the reader into the automation level.

This entry provides suitable libraries for CPUs of the SIMATIC S7-300/400/1200 and 1500 family. The application example shows the precise connection of a RF200 IO-Link reader via the ET 200SP-IO-Link master module to a S7-1500 controller and how to read and write Data from a S7-1500 to or from the transponder.

Functions of the IOL libraries
In each library, the following functions are implemented as separate function blocks:

  • Reading RFID data from transponders
  • Writing RFID data to the transponder
  • Switching antenna of the RFID reader on/off

Advantages and benefits
Due to the encapsulation of the RFID functions in the user function blocks you do no longer have to deal with the internal processes of the RFID interface. The library blocks were created in SCL and can therefore be easily customized for function extensions or porting to other PLC systems.
