What are the requirements for using SIMATIC PDM Data Record Routing?

  • Entry
  • Associated product(s)
This FAQ response gives you information about SIMATIC PDM data record routing and an overview of this ES/AS components supported by PCS 7 for data record routing.

Introduction
Data record routing is a function within SIMATIC S7 modules. SIMATIC PDM uses this function to access parameters and functions of field devices with PROFINET, PROFIBUS DP, PROFIBUS PA and HART communication. SIMATIC PDM is a component of the Engineering Station (ES) and communicates with the automation system (AS) via Ethernet. The AS forwards the request to the field device via PROFINET or PROFIBUS DP. This procedure of data transfer between the plant level and process or field level is called data record routing.

The figure below shows two examples of access options for data record routing from PDM to field devices of the field level.

Requirements for data record routing
The automation system must have the interfaces below for data record routing:

  • Ethernet plant bus: CPU/H-CPU with integrated interface or communication processor CP 443-1
  • PROFIBUS DP field bus: CPU with integrated data record gateway or communications processor CP 443-5 Ext

  • PROFINET field bus: PROFINET CPU, H-CPU with integrated data record gateway or communications processor CP 443-1

Note
PROFINET as field bus is supported by PCS 7 V8.0 Upd1 and higher. HART communication is enabled through PROFINET with PCS 7 V8.0 SP1. Check the list of released PROFINET modules.

Note
A list of modules released for a specific version of PCS 7 is available in the entry entitled "Which modules and their firmware versions are released for PCS 7 and how can you upgrade them?" in Entry ID 39709060.

Interfaces of the CPU
The following versions are possible for data record routing:

  • Standard CPU with PROFIBUS DP Interface firmware V5.1 and higher
  • Standard CPU PN with PROFIBUS DP and PROFINET interface
  • Standard CPU 410-5H Process Automation with PROFIBUS DP and PROFINET interfaces
  • Fault-tolerant CPU (H-CPU) firmware V6.0 and higher with PROFIBUS DP and PROFINET interfaces

Note
More information about using PROFINET components and CPU interfaces in PCS 7 is available in the entry entitled "Which components and controllers can be used to set up a PROFINET field bus in PCS 7?" in Entry ID: 82948099.

3. Data record routing via IE/PB link

If the combination of CPU and communication processor does not support data record routing, you can use the IE/PB Link as data record gateway. In this way, for example, you can access diagnostics and maintenance data from intelligent field devices and field components over SIMATIC PDM.

You can use the IE/PB links below for data record routing.
