PID Professional V12 for STEP 7 V12 SP1 (TIA-Portal) Now Available

The PID Professional optional software package now enables you to use the established closed-loop controller solutions from Modular PID Control and Standard PID Control also for STEP 7 V12 (TIA Portal). This software package can be used for implementing simple to complex PID controllers. 

Standard PID Control and Modular PID Control for STEP 7 V5.5 are still available for delivery.

The PID Professional  optional software package is now available in version V12 for STEP 7 V12 SP1 (TIA-Portal)

    The optional package combines two packages in one. In addition, the function blocks are included and need not be ordered separately anymore.
  • Library for STEP 7
    PID Professional is a library for STEP 7 and is served completely with STEP 7 means. It thus fits seamlessly into the STEP 7 program and requires no additional programming knowledge.
  • Simple commissioning and optimization
    Parameterization screens are available for convenient parameterization and commissioning. In addition, the PID Self-Tuner (part of STEP 7 V11 SP1 and higher) can be used to optimize the closed-loop controllers.

Commissioning software

The parameterization tool fits seamlessly into STEP 7 (TIA Portal). It provides the following functions:

  • Commissioning screens
    The commissioning software includes all screens for commissioning of Modular and Standard PID Control.
  • Working with trend display
    The trend display provides a graphical representation of reference value, actual value and control value over the time. The values of the trend display are updated in the preselected update interval. This is of particular benefit for the proof of the process quality and supports error diagnostics.
  • Wizard to optimize closed-loop controls
    Closed-loop controllers can be optimized by the PID Self-Tuner and commissioned with the easy-to-use wizard without specialist closed-loop control know-how.
  • Variable transient response for the continuous PID controller
    The transient response of the control loop can be preselected such, that it settles with approx. 10% overshoot and thus gains dynamics. If this is not desired, a deadbeat transient response (no overshoot) can be selected.


In the Standard PID Control software the controller structure is ready-made and the data structure is fixed. The following functions can be enabled or disabled by means of software switches:

  • Reference value processing with reference value generator, time scheduler, normalization, FC call, limitation of the reference value slope (ramp function generator) and limitation of the reference value.
  • Actual value processing with normalization, smoothing, square root, FC call, limit value monitoring and monitoring of the actual value ascent. 
  • Error variable processing with dead band and limit value monitoring. 
  • PID Algorithm, for step controllers with and without position feedback. 
  • Control value processing, with manual/automatic changeover, manual value generator, FC call, limitation of the reference value slope, control value limitation and normalization.

In contrast, the controller structure of Modular PID Control is freely programmable. This extensive software block library enables you to implement a large range of controller types (e.g. change-over control, multi-variable control, etc.).

Supported hardware

PID Professional V11 will run on the following hardware systems:

  • S7-300 (CPU 313 and higher)
  • S7-400
  • WinAC

Precondition for the installation

PID Professional V12 requires STEP 7 V12 SP1. 

Licensing model

You require a floating license for each Engineering Station. It is included on the USB memory that comes with the product. A runtime license is required for each CPU on which PID Professional executes.

The products Standard PID Control and Modular PID Control will still remain available for delivery.

Scope of delivery

The PID Professional V12 package (order no. 6ES7860-1XA02-0XA5) includes:

  • CD with engineering SW, function blocks, documentation
  • 1 Engineering license key on USB memory
  • 1 Floating License for the engineering SW (Certificate of License)
  • 1 Single License for the runtime SW (Certificate of License for FBs)

The Trial Version of PID Professional V12 (6ES7860-1XA02-0XT7) includes:

  • CD with engineering SW, function blocks, documentation
  • Existing V11 license keys are accepted! V11 customers can thus switch to V12 without any problems.
  • Alternatively the Trial Version is also available for download.

The upgrade from Standard PID Control or Modular PID Control (V5.1 and higher) to PID Professional V12 (6ES7860-1XA02-0XE5) includes:

  • CD with engineering SW, function blocks, documentation
  • 1 Combo License on USB memory
  • 1 COL (Certificate of License) for the Combo License
  • 1 COL for the Runtime SW (Single license)
