  • Associated product(s)
This entry includes information that you need for replacing an S7-1200 V3 with an S7-1200 V4 in your STEP 7 configuration.

Description
From STEP 7 (TIA Portal) V13 onwards you can configure the firmware V4 for the S7-1200 CPU modules. This entry includes information that you need for replacing an S7-1200 V3 with an S7-1200 V4 in your STEP 7 configuration. You need to replace the CPU hardware to change from V3 to V4.

  • Example 1
You have configured the CPU 1212C DC/DC/Rly with article number 6ES7212-1HE31-0XB0 (firmware V3.0). For the firmware V4.0 you need the CPU 1212C DC/DC/Rly with article number 6ES7212-1HE40-0XB0.

  • Example 2
You have configured the CPU 1215C DC/DC/Rly with article number 6ES7215-1HG31-0XB0 (firmware V3.0). For the firmware V4.0 you need the CPU 1215C DC/DC/Rly with article number 6ES7215-1HG40-0XB0.

General Information
Before upgrading to firmware V4 you should go to the STEP 7 (TIA Portal) V15 manual and read the section entitled "Migrating to V4 (S7-1200)".

Hardware
Additional information about the hardware changes is available in the S7-1200 V4 system manual. The system manual is in Entry ID: 91696622.

User Program
The programming guidelines for the S7-1200/1500 provide recommendations and tips for optimum programming of SIMATIC S7-1200/S7-1500 controllers. Clear explanations are given of the differences in system architecture to SIMATIC S7-300/S7-400 and the associated new programming options. This helps you to create standardized and optimized programming for your automation solutions. The examples described can be applied universally on SIMATIC S7-1200 and S7-1500 controllers.

The "Programming Guidelines for S7-1200/S7-1500" are available in Entry ID 81318674.

Note
A firmware upgrade of the S7-1200 CPU modules is possible only from V.1x to V2.x. It is not possible to make a firmware upgrade from V2.x to V3.x nor from V3.x to V4.x. The firmware V2, V3 and V4 each require corresponding CPU hardware.
