Which modules can be operated in the load group of the power module F-PM-E PPM of the ET 200SP?

Specific standard modules and motor starters of the ET 200SP can be operated in the load group of the power module F-PM-E PPM.

Description
Modules placed on the right of the power module F-PM-E 24VDC/8A PPM ST (6ES7136-6PA00-0BC0) are in the power module's load group as long as the modules are placed on Base Units which do not open a new load group. Fail-safe shutdown of modules placed in this way is done by switching off the load group of the power module F-PM-E 24VDC/8A PPM ST.

Safe shutdown up to SIL 2 / PL d with standard modules
The combination of power module F-PM-E 24VDC/8A PPM ST (call F-PM-E in the following) and standard output modules permits fail-safe shutdown up to SIL 2 in compliance with IEC 61508:2010 and PL d in compliance with EN ISO 13849-1:2015.

When capacitive loads are switched on the power module F-PM-E 24VDC/8A PPM ST, the input capacitance of the standard module (see table above) must be taken into account. For this refer to Chapter B "Switching of Loads" in the manual

With standard output modules the "Missing L+ power supply diagnostics" parameter should be disabled, otherwise a diagnosis of the standard output modules is triggered at each dark test of the power module.

If ungrounded loads are switched with the standard output modules, the capacitances and resistances between chassis and ground at the outputs of the standard output modules must be taken into account.

Setting of the maximum read-back time for dark test / switch-on test
When setting the "Maximum read-back time for switch-on test" and "Maximum read-back time for dark test" parameters of the power module F-PM-E, you must take into account the following three steps.

Step 1
Taking into account the internal capacity and the internal power consumption
Each standard output module has an internal capacitance Ci and an internal power consumption Ii (regardless of the connected load). The total internal capacitance Ci_total and the total internal power consumption i_total of all the standard output modules implemented in the potential group opened by the power module F-PM-E are calculated as follows.

Ci_total = ƩCi

Ii_total = ƩIi

Take the relevant values from the table above.

The "Maximum read-back time for switch-on test" and "Maximum read-back time for dark test" parameters must be selected so that the values of Ci_total and Ii_total are under the capacitive load curve for the power module F-PM-E.

Step 2
Taking into account the loads at the outputs of the standard output modules
Refer to the technical data or measure the values for

  • Load current IL and the
  • Load capacitance CL

Define the values at each output of the standard output modules of the connected actuators. Where:

CL_total = ƩCL

IL_total = ƩIL

The "Maximum read-back time for switch-on test" and "Maximum read-back time for dark test" parameters must be selected so that the load current IL and the load capacitance CL at each output of the standard output module are under the capacitive load curve for the power module F-PM-E.

Step 3
Determining the total capacitance and total power consumption
The total capacitance Ctotal is made up of Ci_total and the sum of all the load capacitances CL connected to the outputs of the standard output modules. The total power consumption Itotal is made up of Ii_total and the sum of all the load currents IL at the outputs of the standard output modules.

Ctotal = Ci_total + CL_total

Itotal = Ii_total + IL_total

The "Maximum read-back time for switch-on test" and "Maximum read-back time for dark test" parameters must be selected so that the values of Ctotal and Itotal are under the capacitive load curve for the power module F-PM-E.

Safe shutdown up to SIL 2 / PL d with motor starters
For the safe shutdown you can use various motor starters up to SIL 3 in compliance with IEC 61508:2010 and PL e in compliance with EN ISO 13849-1:2015.

The following direct and reversing starters can be used for this in the ET 200SP:
