With immediate effect, the following S7-1200 products are available for delivery:  

·         Revised S7-1200 CPU with Firmware V4.0

·         Additional Compact Controller CPU 1217C

·         IO-Link Master Module SM 1278

The hardware of the existing controllers of the SIMATIC S7-1200 family were revised and together with the CPU Firmware Version 4.0 functionally innovated.

Innovations of the CPU Version 4.0

·       iDevice
Starting with Firmware Version 4.0, all SIMATIC S7-1200 CPUs can also be operated as a PROFINET iDevice and thus enable 

o    An easy connection of IO controllers

o    Realtime communication between IO controllers

o    Reduced load on the IO controller through distribution of the computing load to the iDevices

o    Easier to handle projects through processing of subtasks in separate STEP 7 projects

·       Trace
For the quicker localization of programming errors and/or for the easy optimization of algorithms

·       Recipe 
The recipe management allows the user to make recipe data available as .csv file and to export recipe data from the controller 

·       Expanded access protection 
By now having 4 authorization levels, the access protection against unauthorized configuration changes is enhanced

·       Firmware update over network 
The firmware can now also be updated over the TIA Portal in addition to the web server

·       New organization blocks 
With different priority levels and alarms 

·       Function "Load in RUN"
Now supports up to 20 blocks, which can be loaded to the target system in the operating mode RUN. Tags can also be added, be changed in existing data blocks and function blocks, and be loaded to the target system in the operating mode RUN.  

·       Display of web pages on a mobile device 
The web server now supports the display of default web pages and user-defined web pages on a mobile device as well as on a PC

·       Freely selectable I/O assignment of the high speed counter and pulse outputs
The assignment of inputs and outputs to HSC and PTO as well as PWM can be freely selected

Necessary Prerequisites for the Use of the Modules and Functionality described above

For the configuration of the SIMATIC S7-1200 CPU from V4.0, the Engineering System STEP 7 from V13 is required.

Compatibility and necessary Components

SIMATIC Memory Card

A SIMATIC memory card can optionally be used to expand the CPU load memory, to load the application software or to perform a firmware update.

 

Compatibility of the Hardware and Software

An S7-1200 CPU V4.0 is (spare-parts-) incompatible with an S7-1200 of Firmware V3.0. An existing S7-1200 project, created for Firmware V3.0, can continue to be used on a CPU V4 after compiling the project (error-free) with the engineering system STEP 7 Basic / Professional from V13.

The existing SIMATIC S7-1200 CPU V3 portfolio is expected to remain available on an interim basis until Fall 2014, and will then be phased out. From that date, the 10-year spare parts availability for these V3 CPUs will start.

An update of already delivered SIMATIC S7-1200 controllers (CPU 1211C, CPU 1212C, CPU 1214C and CPU 1215C) of the previous generation to the new CPU Firmware V4.0 is not possible.
