RFID connection via ET 200 serial communication modules

The RFID readers of SIMATIC Ident shall be connected to a SIMATIC S7-CPU via distributed I/O (ET 200MP/200SP/200S) and operated in order to realize cost-efficient usage of the readers.

Solution
In this application example, block libraries are supplied which enable operating RFID readers (RF200/RF300/RF600) via distributed I/O without RFID communication modules. Furthermore, you will find a practical application example which discusses the handling of the library blocks in greater detail.
You can use all PROFINET-capable CPUs from the SIMATIC S7-300/S7-400/S7-1500. The readers are connected serially to the distributed I/Os (via the respective communication modules).

The following basic functions are realized by the blocks of the library:

  • RESET (resets the RFID reader)
  • READ (reads from transponders in the Reader field)
  • WRITE (writes to transponders in the Reader field)
  • INIT (initiates transponders in the Reader field)
  • ANT (switches the antennas of the readers on/off)

The following figure shows the possible hardware combinations covered with the library blocks:


Note: The library can be used with a CM PtP connected to an ET 200MP as well as with a CM PtP connected directly to an S7-1500.
