Detecting PROFINET Topologies and Activating of IO-Devices
In series machine building and in all areas where machine configurations change frequently, the user program requires a high degree of flexibility. Program modifications during operation or for different types of series machines are expensive and require specific expertise. Programming the activation / deactivation of individual IO devices, for example using a panel, involves costs both for the customer and for the configuration. The best solution in such a case is that the plant automatically detects which IO devices and therefore which machine units are connected to the central production unit (CPU). Based on the detected IO devices, these devices are activated and the suitable user program is called for configuring.
With its standardized data records, PROFINET provides the option to retrieve information about the accessible IO devices of a plant. This application uses this option:
The detected hardware configuration / accessible IO devices are activated and the user program is executed based on the detected configuration. The read out information is compared to a database that has previously been created.
This example shows the basic procedure using an S7-1500 as the PROFINET IO controller and three PROFINET IO devices (ET200 MP and ET200SP).
The shown configuration represents the maximum configuration used in the application. However, it can be expanded as required (within the scope of the quantity framework of the CPU). To do so, only one data block needs to be changed.
Among other things, the application contains solutions to the following tasks:
- Reading device names out of IO devices
- Activating / deactivating IO devices
- Easy installation and startup as only one user program is necessary.
- No manual switching between different configurations of a machine, the configuration is detected automatically. This results in low technical requirements for the operating staff.
