·         Oversampling (AI/AQ HS)

o   Definition
The term n-fold oversampling means the recording or outputting of data with constant cycle times, whereby n cycles correspond to one PROFINET bus cycle. The module captures n values and transfers them to the controller in a data package with n data, or a data package with n data is transferred from the controller to the module and then output in n constant cycles.

o   Application area
Oversampling makes sense when the recording or outputting of data requires a finer time resolution but it is not desired to use a very short PROFINET bus cycle and thus a very fast CPU cycle time.

o   Application examples
Oversampling is often used for quality monitoring measurements, for example in the recording of pressure profiles during the blowing process in the production of PET bottles.

o   ET 200SP
The analog high-speed modules permit the recording and outputting of analog values in a grid of 50µs.

·        MSI (DI HF)

o   Definition

Here the input data provided at subslot 1 of the module are copied internally to subslots 2 to 3 and can thus be provided virtually simultaneously to up to 3 additional controllers. Any attached diagnoses will be provided to the other controllers via value statuses (QI-data).

o   Application area
The provision of input data to several controllers is often required at the transfer point of overlapping automation plants.

o   Application examples
Typical examples are robotic cells and the connected loading and unloading stations.

o   ET 200SP
The high-feature digital input modules can provide their 8-Bit input data to up to three further controllers.
MSI is set as operating mode of the input module. The data access is in the usual simple manner via the process I/O image, without any programming of communication relations between the controllers. This will simplify engineering, commissioning and possible error detection.

 

·        MSO (DQ HF)

o   Definition

Here the output data output at subslot 1 of the module are copied internally to subslots 2 and 3 and can thus be provided virtually simultaneously to up to 3 additional controllers as output statuses. Any attached diagnoses of the physical outputs of subslot 1 will be provided to the other controllers via value statuses (QI-data).
 

o   Application area
The applications are similar to those of MSI. Here too the statuses of outputs are required by the controllers of adjacent manufacturing cells.

o   ET 200SP
The high-feature digital output modules can provide their 8-Bit output data to up to three further controllers as status signals.

·        Time-based IO (IO-Link Master)

o   Definition
Many processes in a plant require accurate reproducibility. The reproducibility can be optimized within certain limits by shorter CPU cycle times. The use of highly accurate inputs/outputs with time-based IO enables a better reproducibility than would be possible with the optimization of the CPU cycle time. Another advantage of time-based IO lies in the independence from the minimum time base of the application cycle.

o   Application areas
Linear measurement
The difference between two input time stamps and the associated transport speed can be used to calculate the length of a  passing product.
Cam controller
A synchronous position information (e.g. from a counter module or axis) can be used to extrapolate the further path of motion.  Based on this the switching position (cam position) is calculated and passed on to the TIO-module (output).
The switching event will now occur at exactly the desired position.
Batching
By specifying a starting and a stopping edge in a time-controlled digital output a valve can be opened for a set time to dispense the required quantity of fluid.

o   ET 200SP
The scalable I/O system provides different options to implement time-based IO applications. More information on this topic is described in the Function Manual “High-precision input/output with Time-based IO” at entry ID: 82527590

 

·        Variable address area (IO-Link Master)

o   For optimal utilization of the available address area of a PLC the address area of an IO-Link Master can be adapted to the actual requirements.

·        Scalable measuring range (AI RTD/TC HF)

o   Definition
The scalable measuring range is a limited sector of the measuring range of the module. It enables the resolution to be increased for a parameterizable sector. The parameter "Measuring range resolution" determines the resolution up to 2 or 3 fractional digits. The parameter " Measuring range center" determines the temperature about which the scalable measuring range is stretched symmetrically.

o   Application area
Cost-effective temperature measurement with a high resolution without having to use expensive 24-Bit modules.

o   ET 200SP
The scalable measuring range is available for the temperature measuring ranges of the resistance thermometers (RTD) Standard and thermocouples (TC). The measuring ranges for voltage, resitance and resistance thermometers for air conditioning are not supported. The scalable measuring range is valid for the nominal range and the under and overdrive ranges.

·        Switchable wire-break monitor (AI RTD/TC HF)

o   Definition
The function "Switchable wire-break monitor" is available for thermocouples. It switches off the wire-break monitor for the module. This may be necessary to calibrate thermocouples, for instance, because the measuring current required for the wire-break monitor causes measurement errors during the calibration.

·        Parameterizable wire resistance (AI RTD/TC HF)

o   Definition
Parameter for the measurement types resistance (2-wire connection) and resistance thermometer. It is used to compensate the wire resistance without having to modify the sensor wiring. If the parameter "Wire resistance" is parametrized with a value of more than 0 mΩ, the module will automatically use the factory calibration data.

·        Calibration at runtime (AI/AQ HF)

o   Definition
The SIMATIC analog modules are calibrated prior to shipping and posses a very good long-term stability, so that calibration during operation is not necessary. However, certain guidelines, e.g. from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), require a calibration for all components of a measuring circuit at regular time intervals. These components include analog input and output modules. Especially in systems where the sensors have to measure and process relatively small voltages and currents it may be advisable to perform a calibration. The calibration compensates influences on the measuring result due to the wires and/or the temperature. The calibration will capture the new values and save them retentively on the module. Nevertheless the factory calibration values are not lost; the user can return to the original values at any time.

Configuration of the interface modules
The new I/O modules can be used with all ET 200SP interface modules. Certain functions are presently only supported by the PROFINET interface module IM155-6PN HF.
