The storage concept for SIMATIC HMI Unified Comfort Panels includes the use of external storage media, the compatibility of memory cards and the optimum use of the internal memory.

Description

When using external storage media with SIMATIC HMI Unified Panels (Basic and Comfort), it is important to ensure the compatibility of the storage devices and correct handling in order to avoid data loss or damage.

Note on HMI Unified Basic Panel
HMI Unified Basic Panels do not have an SD card interface, but only the corresponding USB interface(s). For this reason, the following information on SD card compatibility only applies to the HMI Unified Comfort Panel.

Compatible memory cards

SD cards with 128 GB (NTFS system), for example, are also suitable for Unified Comfort Panels.
There is no clear limit to the storage capacity of the SD card or USB stick. SIMATIC SD memory cards and SIMATIC HMI USB sticks with various storage capacities are approved and guaranteed, including

Notes
  • SD memory media with a capacity of 32 GB can be used as system cards for SIMATIC HMI Unified Panels.
  • It is also possible to use SD cards with a capacity of more than 32 GB for automatic backup with Unified Comfort Panels. The SD card slot, for example, with models MTP1500, MTP1900 and MTP2200 supports the memory cards SD, SDHC and SDXC.   • The FAT32 and NTFS file systems are supported for formatting the data memory card.
  • A memory card that has already been used as a system memory card can only be used as a data memory card if it has been formatted beforehand.

Storage types

The SIMATIC HMI Unified Comfort Panels offer a variety of storage types that can be used for storing data and backing up information. The various storage types and their functions and uses are briefly explained in the following.

  • Internal memory
    The operating system, project files, user administration, parameter sets and other data such as documents or media files are stored in the internal memory. For archives with high read/write cycles, it is preferable to use the memory card instead of the USB interface.
             Note
             Using the internal memory ensures fast access times and reliable data processing.

  • Data memory card
    Archives, data backups, user data, parameter sets and data for reporting can be stored on the data memory card. When the device is switched off, the consistency of the stored data is only guaranteed with the SIMATIC SD Memory Card of 32 GB or more. It is recommended to regularly back up the data on the data memory card in order to avoid data loss.

  • System memory card
    The system memory card is used to automatically save all data from the operating device's internal memory. It is not visible and cannot be used as a data memory device. The system memory card is inserted into the slot provided and is secured by a safety slide.
