Hello!

I've been following the tutorial with an IOT2040, but I'm stuck at the first part with mysql_install, and keep running into this error:

I've done it with the recent versions of Maria, and even the one used on the tutorial, which is the currently extracted.

I've read it somewhere that the problem may not even be related to the hostname configuration.

Does somebody have an explanation?

have you tried to start it with --force like described in the error message? 

I can't really say why this error appears and how to solve it without this option.

Yes, I've tried to do so, but to no avail.

Mean while I got around it by downloading the exact same version of the MariaDB and that error doesn't show up anymore.

Unfortunately, I've been unable to complete this step, now due to the following error:
