The Simodrive is a converter sytem that is mainly used in singel or multiple axis application like a CNC Machine controlled by a 840D, orin an application where you have multiple axis with difrrent motors working togehter to perform a task like a Robot or a Gantry The Masterdrive is a converter used for single motor application or where you havea masterdrive controlling multiple motors ( same model ). A good example is the use of a Masterdrive in an Elevator to lift pallets where you need good torque and speed. Positioniong mode may be in controller. Simodrive usually use Servo Control. Best regards.

Dave Posts: 271 Rating: (29)	Hello Ekansh, Generally speaking Masterdrives were designed for what are referred to as "production machinery" (e.g., printing, conveying, converting, material handling, packaging, etc.) whereas Simodrive were designed primarily for the machine tool industry. Masterdrives have technology functions that can be selected to adapt it to specific functionality (e.g., cut-to-length, flying cutoff, winding, etc.). Their power range is quite wide. Simodrive is usually controlled via Sinumerik CNC products (e.g., 840D, 810D or 802D); however, Simodrive can be controlled by Simotion or Simatic as well. When controlled by Simotion or Simatic, this provides expanding the functionality of the basic drive to handle non-machine tool applications similar to Masterdrives. Also, the maximum frequency output is up to 1500 Hz for high speed motors (e.g., 40,000 rpm spindles). The drive is quite compact, but it is limited to 120 kW per DC bus power limit of the infeed module. Most infeed units are fully line regenerative eliminating the need for regenerative pulsed resistor modules. The Simodrive 611U is the Universal drive and it has been very successful in meeting the needs of many types of applications in the machine tool industry as well as others. The SimoCom U software tool is very easy for the Novice user or for an expert as well. Hope this helps...
