But why can't you use regular trend control from tools and connect it to PID variables ? I always do like that.

It will be historical data so no onlice update. Better is to use trend and connect to PID DB online tags. That would be better choice. Also you can include some I/O fields connected directly to PID DB, so you could change Gain, I, D, maybe some other parameters.

If the only purpose is to tune the loops by viewing the trend response to changed in Setpoint or PID parameters, then of course you do not need to archive. However if one wants to vew the Loop Trends over a long period of time then Archive is what you need. Cheers Navnag

Beautiful trends are in WinCC Pro
