S120 with Micromatic Motor_Encoder problem

rahulshinde Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	Hello, I am using a Micromatic motor with Sinamics S120 and Simotion D435 V4.0. I have a ERN encoder with 2048 periods/rev and 1 sin/cos track per rev. I am not able to configure the SMC 20 module. Whenever i download the configuration to Simotion, my CPU goes in fault mode giving Fault codes F031150, & F31120. While configuring the encoder, i have tried using standard encoder types as wellas i have tried manual entry of encoder data. Still no results. Pls help. Attachment ENC_ERROR_1.zip (720 Downloads)

You have configured 5V power supply for the encoder. Have the encoder a 5V power supply or works with 24V? Do you have the correct encoder cable between the encoder and SMC20? Regards Christoph

rahulshinde Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	Dear Chris, thanks for the reply. I have checked the connections and they seem to be ok. I have made the following connections Track A, A, B,B, R,R, +5 V and Mref. Am doubtful about Tracks C&D. I have two axis, one with an ERN 1387 encoder and one ERN 180 enocder. ERN 1387 has A,A,B,B,C,C,D,D,R,R. while ERN 180 has only A,A,B,B,R,R*. Can u or other members pls tell me what is 5V sense for sensor and Msense for sensor, pin no 14, and 16 on the SMC 20 module. Regards, Rahul Shinde.

If the encoder is detected by the system the values will give you the supported encoder configuration. Which encoder/motor do you have exactly (modell number etc.)? Regards Christoph

In the detected configuration i am not getting any ref pulse/rotation. I have selected user defined configurations in the motor module configuration menu. I am selecting "Incremental Sine/Cosine" & 2048 microperiods per revolution. After that i am entring the parameters (to meet p0404) through expert list to match the configuration in r0455. I feel there are some parameters which are to be programmed in addition to configure a third party encoder. The make is Micromatic and type is ERN 180 & ERN 1387. Pls give me a procedure if available for manually entering encoder data and configuration applicable to ERN encoders/SMC20. Also pls tell me what is 5V sense for sensor and Msense for sensor, (pin no 14, and 16 on the SMC 20 module). Are they required to be connected. You must connect it to the corresponding Pins in the encoder. I don't know which encoder your use, so i can't tell you which pin on the encoder must connected to which pin on the SMC module. rahulshinde Posts: 6 Rating: (0)	Hello, The encoders i am using are pretty old and even thecustomer does not haveproper documentation of the encoders. I guess they are ERN 180 series and ERN 1387 series encoders of Heidenhain make. ERN 180 encoder has 11 pin male connector and ERN 1387 encoder has 15 pin male connector. Unfortunately i do not have a 6FX cable for connecting the encoders. Thus i have employed a 25 core normal screened/shielded cable and soldered the connections to a 25 pin Sub D connector on the SMC 20 module. I have only connected the following connections respectively. 1. ERN 1387. It has the following pins. A,A,B,B,R,R, C,C,D,D, power supply (5V), Menc(reference potential). 1. ERN 180. It has the following pins. A,A,B,B,R,R, power supply (5V), Menc(reference potential). Is it essential to connect 5 V sense and Msense for the encoder to function correctly. Regards, Rahul.

Technology Team Platinum Expert Joined: 10/11/2006 Last visit: 10/30/2024 Posts: 5931 Rating: (813)	Hello, in case of 1Vpp encoders and SMC20 evaluation the Sense signals must be bridged with the supply signals, otherwise the drive trips with F31120 (In the Siemens cables 6FX it is automatically done). So that you have to make a bridge from 5V Supply to 5V Sense and from 0V Supply to 0V Sense, after that the F31120 will disappear. By the way the ERN1387 is the Standard1Vpp sin/cos encoder with C/D tracks in the Siemens motors as well, so you can choose 2001 in the config.
