I am facing issue in one of the S7 417 5H PLC System. Rack01 CPU has stuck with almost all LEDs solid ON. And it is not responding to any actions.

After receiving the alarm on DCS when checked in field complete rack was in Powered Off Condition. There was issue with power supply of the Rack01, same was normalized amd Rack01 was powered On. And then I stuck with this condition.

Anyone can please support and suggest the further actions to restore it to normal.

Please check the following carefully:

1. Is the model and type of CPUs the same in the two racks?
2. Do both of your CPUs have the same version?
3. Is the rack number adjustment button (rack 0 or 1) on the back of the CPU done correctly?
* If you are sure of the above, make the settings for the rack number on the back of the CPU and replace the two modules
If the problem occurs again in the same equipment, it must be replaced by new one.

A memory dump file should be generated from CPU and you can send it to Support to know reason of this failure.

Requisites

• CPU hardware versions V4.5 or higher.
• A PC with Step 7 installed is necessary together with an Ethernet cable or an MPI cable to connect to the CPU.
• The CPU in a faulty state (all LEDS flashing), otherwise it will not produce a dump file.

Procedure

• Switch the mode sector to STOP mode and cycle the power OFF-ON. After a short ( around 5 minutes) automatic memory reset (STOP LED blinking), the PLC should be in STOP mode with steady light.
• The memory dump is also stored if the PLC is removed from the rack without buffering and will be safe until the next defect event.
• Copy the .exe file (S7Dump.exe) to your PC. The Step7 software must be installed on your PC.
• The PC has to be connected to the PLC, either via the MPI interface or Industrial Ethernet.
• Standard-PLC:  The memory dump can be stored also in RUN mode.
• H-PLC: The memory dump can be stored from the relevant PLC only in STOP mode (this is also true when using a single H-PLC).
• Execute the file "S7Dump.exe".
• You can select the communication connection to your PLC (MPI or via Industrial Ethernet).
  • If you use MPI, please fill in the MPI address from PLC, the RACK number and Slot position.
  • If you use Ethernet, please fill in either IP address or MAC address of the CP, and the CPU RACK number and Slot position.
• If the error message appear “CPU not connected “, please review all the setting corresponding to your MPI or Ethernet connection.
• If the error message "ffdfd241" appears then the password in field "Password (optional)" is missing. The password is necessary in case of password protected CPUs.
• Start the memory dump with "OK" (a message will show : "Upload dump from PLC").
• The duration of the memory dump depends on the PLC type, the used interface and the baud rate (This can vary between 10 minutes and up to 1 hour).
• After the memory dump is retrieved the tool closes and the S7Dump_connectionType.pit file of around 10 Mb is produced.
