Dear all

I have a strange problem that I never had before, any advice or info is welcome. I want to connect to a plc of a machine where I dont have the original software.

Here are some details:

- Online PLC: CPU 1518F-4 PN/DP, 6ES7 518-4FP00-0AB0

- Can ping PLC in CMD, can see PLC in Proneta, can see PLC in online & diagnostics

- FW 2.8.3 and programmed in TIA V15.1 according the online & diagnostics info

- Updated my TIA v15.1 to latest version including safety

- FW 2.8.3 not available so took 2.6 (highest in V15.1)

- Tried all 3 Profinet interfaces; X1 and X2 are configured with a fixed partner, X3 is free and not used. Same problem with all three interfaces

- It goes online for 1sec and then loses connection in TIA V15.1

- When I configure a lower FW version in TIA it goes online and gives incompatible error

- Upload device as new station gives error: "The upload of the hardware configuration failed (D0FD - 109 2 0)"

- Configured a unspecified S7-1500, tried detection gives error : "General error occurred during hardware detection. Article number could not be found online."

- Tried different laptop: Same story

- Tried V16 with FW 2.8: Gives incompatible error

- Tried turning of firewall / anti-virus / other network adapters of laptop

- Tried copying the profinet name and pasting this into HW config

- Diagnostic buffer is full of these notifications:
"A previously established system session was terminated due to CPU operating system security efforts."

ADDED:

- Tried different ethernet cables: No difference

- Display of S7 1518F-4 also stays in connecting and thus cannot provide any extra info

Hopefully this is enough info, that someone exactly know what is going on

I'm afraid that since the CPU has a firmware loaded that does not appear in TIA Portal V15.1, you will not be able to upload the program.

In order for an upload to be 100% successful, the TIA Portal version with which it was programmed and a CPU compatible with said TIA Version are required. In this case, since V2.8 is not available in TIA Portal V15.1, it will not be possible to upload the program.

 What you say is not true. It is possible to load a PLC as if it is a lower version firmware. The online diagnostic however do report the firmware loaded into the PLC. It is not reported that it is running a in compatibility mode. It does not state which firmware version is referred to in the software.

As seen in the question, the software tells you about incompatibility if that is the issue.

I do not know what the issue is. I have seen such behaviour if there is a cable issue. Other than that it is a good idea to use the "Support Request" link while waiting for more volunteers to react.

Yes, that's correct. When you download a project to a CPU configured with a lower firmware version, there is no problem, it simply displays a warning message indicating the difference in firmware.

But as far as I understand, this is not the case with uploads. If the CPU has a firmware higher than that configured in TIA Portal, uploading to the PC is not possible.

Perhaps the best thing, as you indicate, is to open a "Support Request".

I put in a support request and received the following answer:

The minimum requirements to upload a device:

- all used GSD files in the loader HW Configuration on the PLC also exist in your TIA Portal engineering station

- all TIA Portal options used when the application was loaded on the PLC must be installed on the engineering station (WinCC comfort, advanced, advanced, StartDrive, safety)

In my case; I asked the original project to the manufacture. Just wanted to share this info with other people.

Source of the problem is found!!

Like mentioned in the previous post I asked for the original project but still experienced the same problem.. Also the machine builder could get the VPN to the machine but had exact same problem..

I noticed that the little screen on the PLC was not responding.. When I plugged this screen out of the PLC and restarted the machine we could get online. Also the machine builder could get online after this..

Very strange but since the screen is disconnected we didn't had any problems anymore.
