Dear Experts,

I want to use VB script in TP 900 Comfort in where i 've to work with strings.

I've an array of 500 of the type string(20) in my plc.
I created tag to link this to the HMI with the name dbUsersSirName:

Now i want to do the following in VB:

'Dim variabeles
Dim UserSirName(500)

'Resize local array to array size of PLC incase of changes in PLC program
Redim UserSirName(Ubound(SmartTags("dbUserSirName")) '<--- Faulty code

'Fill local array with all variables of the PLC array
For i to ubound(UserSirName)
       UserSirName(i) = SmartTags("dbUserSirName")(i)  '<-- Faulty code
Next

If i would do this with integers it wouldnt be a problem but with strings it is.

What am i doing wrong?

Any advise would be helpful.

I've gotten so far as this:

I know i can create the string tag as to search the array.

This works

UserSirName(1) = SmartTags("dbUserSirName[1]")

 i've tried:

This doesn't work.

For i = 0 To 5
   UserSirName(i) = SmartTags("dbUserSirName[" & i & "]")
Next

This doesn't work.

For i = 0 To 5
   temp = "dbUserSirName[" & i & "]"
   UserSirName(i) = SmartTags(temp)
Next

This doesn't work:

temp = "dbUserSirName[" & "1 & "]"
UserSirName(i) = SmartTags(temp)

So i'm not certain how i will loop through the string array.

But only for adressing one fixed string if i loop want to loop through the array of strings it doesnt work. And the syntax for this is not in the FAQ.

It returns the value "" which is not whats in the string.

But when i comment the part out it the first one is losing it's value.

Seems like the problem is not the

temp = "dbUserSirName[" &  i & "]"

For example this works:

Seems like if i dont directly use the array string somewhere it can't connect the value to it.

This doesnt work:

Here i didnt directly link the variable in the code seems like it can't connect the data if i dont hard code it.

The only way it seems to work is if i first write it completely out.

Then i can loop it.

This means i need to write 1000 lines of code cause a simple for loop is not working

Thx for the help, if someone else can find it out would love to have an update on this issue.

Thanks for confirming my suspicion. I've it working now just made a function which calls all the tags and put's it in the array.

On my side it doenst seem that i need to have it on cyclic continous mode for it to work. But if it stops working (now on a test HMI only testing this use case). It's the first thing i'll try.

For now i've working code just not scalable and future proof.
