I've recently taken a project over and am having my first experience with WinCC, V6.0 I've figured out the project was developed on an Engineering Station (Maintenence) and am wondering if someone can help with the following questions. A little more about the architecture: Redundant Server Pair with 12 clients. Individual projects for each client but all screens are on in the server project. Opened project in S7, not much in there except ability to change the machine names for conformity. Recompiled and generated server data. Can't update clients. Copied the client directories over the network, opened them in WinCC (creating a share folder in WinXP) and tried to match up the Target OS in the S7 properties. Here are my questions: What is the typical Redundant Server configuration? What are its limitations? What is the purpose of an engineering station? Its advantages/disadvantages? Is there another way to deploy Server packages other than an engineering station (through S7)? Why does my server application change my manually configured IP at runtime?

Bpg Posts: 4 Rating: (0)	Hello all, I read your responses way back when, Thank you. Yes, the manual helped me somewhat. I ended up finding one of the original designer/developers who pointed me in the right direction. It was developed using PCS7 and I needed to know the order of presidence of how to download to the clients. ensuring share folders were configured correctly, restarting Simatic Shell, generating server data, assigning OS Server to clients, downloading server, downloading clients. There was a lot I was doing wrong. I am still having trouble with the server terminology in the documentation. Take a look: If only clients (not web clients) are used, up to 32 clients have parallel access to one server in a WinCC network. One client can access up to 12 servers in runtime. A maximum of 24 servers can be implemented in the form of 12 redundant server pairs. I don't know what this means. This says nothing about the load of the PLCs. Is the client count compounded when the amount of servers goes up? If I had 12 server pairs running, does that mean I can have no clients? If i had 1 plc and 1 server I'm sure I could fit 32 clients, but I'm dealing with a network that has 20, 400PLCs, communicating to 2 redundant pairs of Servers, each communicating to 13 Clients. I'm not sure if I'm pushing the system limitations. I have rebooted more than 5 clients from the 1 redundant server pair and found that not all the clients would not pull their screens from the server Any further clarity on the limitations, maybe a Siemens compatibility matrix, would be greatly appreciated.
