Is it possible to download HW modifications to S7-1500R in without stopping the system?

First to one CPU and then to the other, like 400 redundant?

When I download HW to my 1500R system is stopped and configuration is loaded to one CPU(primary?) and then one CPU is started automatically, after I must manually start the backup CPU, is this correct way of working?

It seems that HW download is not possible without stopping the PLC.

Ok, then I don't do anything wrong.

But it's a pity that HW can't be downloaded in run mode.

I can certainly understand your thoughts.  I can understand why Siemens does not allow it.  They do not allow it on any of the non-redundant s7-1200/1500 systems.

That said, for a high-uptime system, maybe they need to have a sort of "double-redundant" setup where there are 4 PLCs, 2 live redundant systems running everything, and 2 standby redundant systems with the same programming.

With that configuration, the standby redundant setup could be taken offline temporarily, update the hardware / software - allowing for the PLCs to be stopped and loaded together.

After that, they can go online, get manually switched from the live to the standby PLCs and take over control responsibilities.

Then the other 2 PLCs can be updated, and then go back online and join the double-redundant setup.

This sounds like a PLC cluster, or RAID where it's 2 PLCs together get mirrored with 2 other PLCs, or other similar strategic uptime improvement technologies that have been around for many years.
