I have a redundant server pair WinCC 7.4 SP1 Upd 17, hardware is identical on both, with 2 network cards, one of them is selected for establishing Redundancy (equal on both). I can activate my project normally on both servers. Indication in systray is OK (light green, dark green icon indication). System messages are telling me that everything is OK also: Redundancy recovered, Partner station restarted, Partner server project has been activated, Synchronization launched etc...but:

I also keep getting the system message Notice: Backup will be postponed until restart of partner server, every 10-15 seconds, and it goes on and on.

Of course, restart didn't help. Any hints?

This message contains the information that the backups of the WinCC archives cannot be done, until the OS server isn't correct synchronized. Therefore will be postponed the backup until the redundant partner is restarted, the redundant status of the OS (no faulty) is clear and the OS was synchronized.

What are the causes of PCS 7 control technology and system messages and what measures are to be taken to clear them?

In most cases, the message should disappear after the reboot and finishing of the redundancy synchronization.

If not, a further analysis of the installation may be required via a Support Request to Siemens.

Yes indeed, the message disappeared after the synch, I wasn't patient enough. This brings us to the other question.

If I have a redundancy configured in the project, but for some reason I never start up stand-by server, does this mean that backup will never happen? If yes, the solution is ridiculous on so many levels.
