Understood. Thank You. I have created a source file for my one DB and made edits to it, and imported it back in, but I don't understand what you mean by translating the imported source file. Could you perhaps elaborate on that part and where I need to go to do it?

The definitions that the gentleman is using..

 'importing' is the process where a text file is brought into the project. But it still exists as a text file and adds no functionality to your project (yet).

'translate' is the process where a code block (UDT/DB/FB/FC/OB/..) is generated from the imported text. TIA refers to "Generate blocks to source".

I did look through it but the document is for version 17. The version of Simatic Manager used where I work is version 5.6. The options for version 17 the document talks about don't seem to show up in the older version. Is it not possible to do it with the older version? If it is possible, what do I need to do?

You realise you have posted your question with the Step7 TIA Portal conference?

You can look up the manual for your version of Step7 and look at the chapter that is dedicated to source file creation and usage. The extract I give you is of an older version but should still apply. To create a block from source, the process is called compiling.
