I know that Safety "Safe Operatring Stop SOS" function can work only "with encoder", but I cannot find any reference about the suitability of encoders.

Is it strictly necessary a fail-safe encoder to deploy this function?

If not, How I can I know whether my encoder is suitable to deploy the function?

Hi, 

yes, you need a safety capable encoder system.

A safety encoder system could be:

1-encoder-system: 

sin/cos encoder or some certified DRIVE-CLiQ encoders

2-encoder-system:

2 sin/cos encoders

2 HTL/TTL encoders

mixture of HTL/TTL and sin/cos encoder

I have the following two S120 drives with CU310-2PN:

1) 6SL3210-1PE16-1AL1 with 1FK7042-3BK71-1CH1 motor

2) 6SL3210-1PE14-3AL1 with 1FK7022-5AK71-1LG5 motor

As far as I understand (from "Suitable motors and encoders...." page you linked) both of the above systems (motor+encoder) are suitable for extended safety functions like SOS.
