in discussions with customers, the question often arises to what extent a migration from earlier SIMATIC panels (WinCC flexible / ProTool) to a newer generation (TIA Portal) is possible.

It is possible to separate a WinCC flexible project integrated in STEP 7 V5.x from the latter. Then the WinCC flexible project can be migrated separately. It is then possible to perform a device change to a SIMATIC panel of the new generation within the TIA Portal.

As of TIA Portal V15, older HMI operating devices are no longer supported. For this reason, a migration of older SIMATIC panels or a subsequent device change is only possible up to the corresponding previous version.

Example - ProTool migration

In order to perform a ProTool migration from an OP7 to a KP400 Comfort, the corresponding OP7 ProTool project (pdb file from V5.2), the software WinCC flexible 2008 SP2 and at least the software WinCC Comfort within the TIA Portal (up to V13 SP1 / SP2 or V14 SP1) are required.

ProTool projects can be migrated to WinCC flexible up to version 2008 SP2. Since the OP7 HMI is not supported by WinCC flexible, a HMI change to the OP 77B must be carried out during migration. Subsequently, a migration to the KP400 Comfort can be carried out within the TIA Portal (as described in the links above).
