I believe I always need to monitor external tags? am I wrong? when I simulate tags only internal ones can be simulated? [schnippschnapp]

Janac Posts: 134 Rating: (11)	meaning: you can use it as temporary place for values that you can use on every picture in whole project. you can load some values from sql in internal tags and use them as global variables in scripts or objects or animations...wherever you need them. lot of usage and meaning they have if you use SQL db in your wincc project. Internal tags are not counted as External Tags that you buy with license. They are free.

Chris White Posts: 49 Rating: (2)	Hi there, An easy way to think about it is this... External Tags bring your data into WinCC- thats it. Your data is in the software. Internal Tags allow data to be stored locally and once its there, you can play around with it without fetching any more data from the processor. The way I use it is because we use standard blocks of I/O in our processors, we can't use Structure Tags as this doesn't fit in with our standards. So I bring the data in or an External Tag then use Global Script - "C" Global Actions to map this data to the structure tags. I can now use the Faceplate functions that are otherwise not really possible with standard tags. Another use is Tooltips. You can create local internal tags with TEXT16 data type for example... DIN_00_00_TT DIN_00_01_TT A ToolTip tag for each input, then map that tag to the symbol. Then create an action that writes to these tags in string data type and you have a fully editable Tooltip Script that populates your entire application providing you allocated the ToolTip tags to the tooltip attribute of each symbol. Saves time manually entering tooltips onto each symbol! Overall there are many uses, you just need to start using WinCC and you will see "Oh I need an internal tag for this and that".
