Importing new .devices file fails in Device Manager

Photon Posts: 18 Rating: (0)	Hi, I'm new here and with SIMATIC, so I hope I am posting to the correct forum. I am using PDM Basic, SIMATIC Manager V5.4 and am developing a new device. I have been able to import our EDDL files using 'SIMATIC PDM Manage Device Catalog' previously, but when I add our company name to the .devices file: Manufacturer = "CiDRA Corporate Services" The import gives me an error indicating "device type could not be imported because of incorrect / missing data" I have attempted to import the updated GSD file as well - navigating to the directory above the EDDL files, as well as moving the GSD file to the same dir as the EDDL files and get the same error. I have also seen mention of the 'HW Config' application which I thought might be required to add this, but I think because I have PDM Basic I do not have this application. Is HW Config required? If I leave the Manufacturer string blank in the .devices file: Manufacturer = the import works, but I think I need to include it for completeness. Any suggestions? Thanks, Ed Francy

Photon Posts: 18 Rating: (0)	Hi, The FAQ spells out two things - that the imported device must be one of the PTO types, and also if the 'name' registry entry is missing. It appears that the .devices file is ok on both those. The registry entry is there, and the type is ok because when I leave 'Manufacturer=' blank, the import works. 'name' is set to SONAR. Photon Posts: 18 Rating: (0)	If I replace the text "CiDRA Corporate Services" with "Yokogawa" it imports correctly. Is there someplace I need to add our manufacturer ID (0x76) and Manufacturer string so that the device will import correctly?? Is there a procedure for adding a new MANUFACTURER?

Photon Posts: 18 Rating: (0)	In case anyone else encounters this, the answer is that there IS a list of manufacturers in a CSV file used by PDM. You'll find the 'manufacturer.csv' file here: C:\Program Files\SIEMENS\STEP7\S7BIN You ID and string must be in this file in order for your device to be imported IF you include the 'MANUFACTURER = ' string in your .devices file. The strings must match, of course. I am awaiting an answer on how an update to this file gets distributed, or if it is only updated with a new release of PDM. If I have a customer in the future that attempts to import our device now, I have a few options as to how to fix this: 1) update their manufacturer.csv file for them (what if theirs has a different list, I don't think I should just send them a copy of the list I have, lest it be different). 2) have them use a .device file that leaves manufacturer blank. (In which case PDM will not show our company name, and the registry/path etc will not include our name). Another concern is this - I have no idea what another PA host program may require. Guess I'll have to debug that when I get there.... ed
