I have exact the same problem. I use TIA Portal Step7 Professional V17, the harwdare is a CPU 1507S (6ES7 672-7AC01-0YA0) Software version V21.9. It runs at an cycle of 1 - 2 ms

The biggest problem of the S_Move is at this moment in my project that it is not relaible because of the EN / ENO. If I set EN it takes 1 scan and the ENO is hight BUT 99/100 times it does not move the value (STRING in my part 32 bytes long). As test i used a timer and after 150ms or so the value is moved. So i made an instruction to enable the S_Move and if value A is the same as B i stop moving and i do the rest.. 

The S_Move looks very nice and easy to use, but it is in logic with 1 scan using a real nightmare.

S_MOVE can't transfer a string if the recieving string has zeros in both of the first two bytes (Lenght and amount of characters) If the Lenght is 0, S_MOVE can't perform the move.

So do not use FILL with value 0 to clear the strings. Leaving string start value as '' does not leave length bit 0 and S_Move works fine.

Thank you for the reply's. I did not know about the firtst two bytes to leave them. Now I took a look to my code and I reset the value with a S_MOVE  '' like mention above. 

I don't mind the S_MOVE not doing he's think in one scan, but the biggest problem is that the ENO is high even if the S_MOVE not done. 

I think that you issue is that the string you are trying to move does not contain what you assume. 

S_MOVE blocks and moves value in one scan. ENO is set if there is no error in execution, this happens during one scan.

If S_MOVE was asynchronous, there would be some done output.

That is the problem. It is not one scan i tested it with like 'hello world'

He/she shows that after multpiple scans the data get moved. 

Now the strange part, today i figured it out that it works good if the value is in the STAT of the FB, if I do the same action with a shared DB it tooks more than 150ms (like 100+ scans). So i tought it is maby the problem that the DB is somewhere overwriten or something but i did a cross reference and it is not, i even made an new DB to validate the problem.

I have not experienced same problem. For me S_MOVE has always worked as expected. Except when there was FILL block used.

I have tested from optimized to optimized DB same problem. Now if I use only STAT to STAT variable string its OK. Same as optimized DB to STAT variable it is OK. I reprogrammed everything now to avoid the shared (optimzed DB). And after the S_Move i do a compare of both strings if they are equal than go on (Like an ENO)

 Ok I understand, I hoped it was just an easy "you have to know" thing. I know it is an specific CPU but we are bound by delivery times etcetra. Ill test my code also on an 1515 somewhere this weeks if the problems are solved a make an case about this soft CPU to Siemens support.
