Look at this FAQ where you find this Warning: Fault-tolerant S7 connections are available exclusively in CP1613 (6GK1161-3AA00), CP1613 A2 (6GK1161-3AA01) and CP1623 (6GK1162-3AA00). If you use a CP1613 A2 or CP1623 then these modules must be configured as CP1613 in the STEP 7 hardware configuration. It is not possible to use standard network cards in this case. Best regards. J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Dear Pony, I think the way to have simple S7-Connections from each of the PLC’s to your PC will not really work well even so it may work at the first sight. The problem may be if you transfer data from the PLC to the PC while the System switches over. In this case your last task is not finished and your communication may lead into trouble. The other way around, with two single sided configured S7-connections from the PC to the PLC may also be not as fault tolerant as you want it, but here the PC may realize that the communication is broken. This would have to be done from within your PC program. I thinks this way is much more promising success than the first one. Best regards J_Bell

I've worked with both and I've seen that switching over in fault tolerant connection is seamless while in software (Scripts) switching, I had to wait little time and I/O fields were hanging for little time before switching over was completed.

J_Bell Posts: 5822 Rating: (412)	Dear H-H, I am sorry but fault tolerant S7 Connections do some more than the S7 Connections used with software redundancy, just to mention that failing of one of the two connections is a switch over reason... a.s.o. So the solution I mentioned is hardly comparable to a real fault tolerant S7 Connection. As you mentioned it, you will have to take care about all the issues around the switching over, but if these surrounding conditions are no problem with you, you may use this solution, at least I think so.
