As I understand normally in any project Siemens PLC and Siemens HMI communication is established by firstly adding s7 1200 PLC and then adding HMI . Then making HMI communication by dragging a connection from PLC to HMI  which creates a connection on HMI part side on Wincc on TIA  .

1)Could you please advise the is the protocol used is S7 connection and Is it open . Like any HMI device knowing the IP address of the controller can connect with S7 1200 PLC?

2)Is the HMI details included on hardware configuration of the PLC while download? or the connection details required only for connecting the TAGS  between the PLC and HMI ?

3)Suppose if PLC is already configured with Siemens HMI and If we need to replace the HMI with new one (starting as a new HMI project with uploaded backup from PLC ) , did we need to download the again the hardware configuration to PLC ?

Need to know if the IP address and Profinet name only should be same for the new HMI with old or any other parameters need to be considered.

here are my tips to your questions but I need to say for first that your questions expects very big amount of expected experience to complete all tasks due many cfg options, simply not only one solution is expected.

Not only this way exactly, it can be prepared also independently to CPU without dragging as you expect.

Not exactly again, all depends via which interface and what selected avilable protocol is used. Interfaces with specific protocl types can be PN,PB DP,MPI, physically RS232,RS485,... Take to account that any manufacturer can have own protocol used at his HW with interface type, S7 protocol is Siemens protocol so generally any HW must have implemented this protocol to use this HMI in case of S7 protocol expected. There are many different protocols available as option of course, differ from manufacturer to manufacturer.

It is depended to connection type, protocol.

with uploaded backup from PLC - sry but this is not clear to me, with replace of HMI is no PLC backup expected and required for exact procedure. Then logically PLC download isn't required, it has own cfg. There are more options how to set prj inside HMI with replace procedure. My answer is due your reported PLC type (S7-1200). As I said, in case of other PLC S7 type, procedure can be different (example is S7-200).

Not exactly, all depends to inreface used, comm protocol, cfg, parameters, TAGs defined.

Your questions are very general and therefore can't be answered exactly. Problematic is very huge and you need be familiar and have experience with cfg, simply is not easy answer your questions with few words. Generally I recommend read your HMI type documentation and also help to your expected HMI cfg SW. You can also visit Visualisation Conference where you can see Topics and then can imagine better what is expected to do in some problematic situations also.

Thank you for explanation .I want to add some points which can support my queries.

1)Aim for drag and drop is only to make a connection on HMI side .Am i right. Even if we adopt any method like even if drag or drop or by creating manually connection  on going to connections on HMI side.

2)Consider now only Siemens PLC and SIemens HMI . In this case consider Profinet .

Is S7 connection is open ? Any documentation to read and understand about S7 protocol .

If S7 connection is open then Any Siemens HMI eg KTP900 can communicate with S7 PLC eg : S7 1200  via profinet with known IP address of the PLC ?

If its Profibus the Profibus address will come into picture ?

3)Please advise on this if its S7 300 with Profibus TP900  profibus connection .Also with S7 1200 profinet with KtP 900 PN.

4)As you mentioned . PLC config is already with PLC no need of hardware download. My doubts are 1) If we change IP address of the earlier panel , or if we change the HMI model , will it communicate ?

IF profibus what parameters come into picture .

I dont get any proper documentation on these protocols and configuration.

Basically if the HMI is not set as IO device then you will not have to put the HMI in HW config and also you do not have to program something in the PLC. The HMI connects in runtime dynamically.

If you want to use interated functions or symbolic addressing in HMI project then you have to use an integrated communication connection in the same TIA project or by the use of Proxy Device. If you use a manual HMi connection then you can also address absolute (if you use non optimized DBs).

Also older S7300 communcation can be done then you have to activate PutGetcommunication in security settings.
