Hi to all!

I am working on a project, where colleagues from electrical design (external, not from my team) have drawn a rather unusual network topology (at least to my opininon), mixed star - line topology, with 2 MRP rings (with scalance xc216, see attached (simpified) scheme).

My question is: is this possible with this hardware?

I have read the description and chapter 5.4.4 (Multiple rings) in Function manual "PROFINEt with Step 7" (A5E03444486-AL). There it says, that multiple rings are possible with use of SCALANCE X414 and SCALANCE X300.... 

Collegues from electrical design clame, that it should work also with XC216, because each ring is on separate SCALANCE.

I have tested it, and (surprisingly!), such configuration can be configured in TIA portal, configuration compiles without errors or warnings. But, when i try it then on real HW, network goes down as soon as i "close" one of the rings..... I have read out the failure history from one of the scalance switches, and it says something like this (I do not remember the exact words,but it is like this: "Ireversible fault, theere is more then one ring manager..."). In order to restart the network, I have to hard-reset (power off/on) the switch.... .

Now, I am investigating, what can be done. I would like to propose to my esteemed collegues from electrical design to re-draw it to have only one ring, but I need some "moral support" from your side, if my thinking is right..

So to resume the question: is such topology possible with this hardware?

I believe, I have properly set 2 domains and everything else (roles, pins,...).

Unfortunately, i would be able to continue with this not earlier then in 5 weeks, at comissioning of line, on site....

If still no success, I will try then with only one MRP loop.

Just to confirm:

It works, also 2 MRP rings with XC216 (one ring on one scalance, other ring on other scalance).

 Hello. Will it work if you close ring between CPU and two xc216 switches? (sub-ring topology)

Did you disable RSTP on xc216 or it can be work with RSTP simultaneously on other ports?
