I have recently added Update 2and can't remember if this issue was happening before the update or not.

I get a popup indicating that some block can not be simulated with PLCSIM unless I turn on simulation support in project properties.

I Some projects I upgrade can be simulate with PLCSIM and some I have to turn on "Support simulation during block compilation" in the project properties.
I can not simulate any new project I create with s7-1500 CPU before checking simulation support in project properties regardless of firmware version. And that happens without adding any blocks or any code.

Is this normal now and if so then why?

What you describe sounds to me like the option you set if you want to invite simulation onto a password protected block. Could you provide a picture, please.

Do you see this occurrence for the S7-1200 also?
(I am still on update 1, using Step7 V15 Basic license)

It happens only with s7-1500 and the s7-1200 work as usual.

Edit: By the way this happens also on a brand new project with no added logic or bocks of any sort. So protected blocks couldn't be the reason.

The 1500 simulator requires this setting to be enabled whether or not you even have any KHP blocks.

You have to set it on each new project. By default it is off. Please be sure to read the warning. By enabling simulation mode, your KHP block protection may be a bit weaker. This is why the setting is off by default.

After enabling simulation, you have to enter the password in KHP blocks so they can be recompiled with simulation support. If you have no KHP blocks then a simple recompile is all you need (this will happen automatically for you).

The 1500 simulator has had this behavior ever since it first supported KHP blocks. I don't recall which version introduced that. If the 1200 simulator ever supports KHP blocks, I would guess it will have this same behavior.
