I'm using CPU315F-2PN/DP which has limit of 8 devices on its ethernet port to communicate the devices on TCP/IP.

How can I add 9th device on TCP/IP to the same PLC?

Is it possible to use CP card to add 9th device through it on TCP/IP?

Star topology is used. But will that really matter.

In CPU datasheet the limit given is 8 device on tcp/ip. Please refer attached datasheet.

There are 8 connection resources available for "TCP/IP transport protocol". It does not mean only 8 devices can be connected. It means 8 devices can be connected to at the same time.

Using a dynamic connection method would make it possible to reach more devices. That means disconnecting one device so that another device can be connected. It does mean that a poling methos is needed to cycle through all the devices within a time period.

just to be sure not to mix up things.

The question is, do we really talk about open ie connections, or do you need an additional device on PROFINET IO? Because these are different things.

Open IE communication:
As mentioned in the data sheet, the max number of open user / open IE communication ist limited to max. 8 connections, this is regardless of the used topology.

PROFINET IO:
If you need an additional 9th profinet io device, like an ET200SP e.g. it is no problem. The CPU supports up to 128 io-devices.

A static configuration would have the device specification inside the hardware configuration. While the dynamic configuration has user program identify the device.

The best solution would be the one that fits the way you are currently doing it. We have no idea how you are linking to the 8 devices you have now.

I have no clue as to how the instruction set functions for the S7-300 when it comes to Ethernet TCP communications. For the S7-1x00 there are instructions establishing the communication link. The instruction consumes the the partner IP address and has a way to connect/disconnect.

The following is available in the instruction toolbox:

TCON would establish communications. TDISCON would disconnect. So.. disconnect a device before connecting another device.
