We would like to install a braking module and resistor for our standalone spindle drive converter system in our Karatsu CNC lathe. The CNC system is operated by FANUC controls, with a CU320 running the spindle.
Our though process is that, there is frequent failure in ALM & SMM, we want to take this step as the braking module and resistor are not a very high value items and this should help in dissipating the DC energy.
can you tell us , if we are thinking in the right direction?

I am assuming after connecting the braking module and the resistor the ALM, will both regenerate and the excess energy will then be dissipated into the braking module, is this correct? Are there parameters to setup or control this process, how will changing parameters like rampdown time have an effect on this?
