Is it safe to perform the firmware upgrade from current version V19 (the latest version) to the new V20? We are using TIA Portal V18 for configuration and the panel type is MTP1200.

There is no general answer to this question.

Like all WinCC Unified Panel images, it supports compatibility mode, i.e. it can run a project created for a previous version.

Upgrading your project may result in some performance improvements, but to benefit from all the improvements you would have to upgrade the project and device version.

However, like almost all software products, it will contain some bugs that may not have been present in a previous version. And alarm logging is not backward compatible. This means that if you upgrade to V20 and then switch back to a V19 version, the logs there will be unreadable and should be deleted.
