In TIA Portal v15.1 Update 5 (and lower versions) you can create an HMI project where you connect to a PLC still made in Step 7 v5.6. For this, you can use a "Device Proxy".

But now I have a project on my desk where the "device proxy" is configured as a CPU317-F2 while it is actually a CPU315-F2. The device proxy is wrong. Probably they had a 315-F2 on the office, configured it with that. Went onsite and installed a 315-F2. Only one HMI connection is there for the operators communication.

My problem: I have to create new tags, but I can't update the "device proxy" because of the PLC difference. See also attachment.

Does anyone know a solution except "delete" and "relinking everything"?

 I'm is a similar situation got a 315 CPU in the office to develope and test the new plc and HMI software but when I get to site it will be an older 314.  I've just replaced the 315 CPU with the 314 in the step 7 project and now the proxy wont update and shows a red cross. 

So i'm assuming you have already a configured wincc with tags and all and that's the stuff you don't want to loose.

Here's what i did.

Make a new device proxy with the one it should be.

It will now show up in the device overview.

In devices & networks, network view, connect it to the right LAN.
You will get a duplicate IP, change the ip of the old bad proxy to something else.

Maybe this is the right time to compile (not sure, i was freewheeling here)

On the right, slide open the pane and select the tab Connections (not in the folder structure).
Identify the correct connection, and change the communication partner with the new proxy.
Congrats, you're halfway there.

Go to the affected HMI tags, some will have a bad connection link now.
Select all those and in the header click the 'Synchronize with PLC tag'.

Compile again and fix errors.
