S7200 smart PLC Modbus TCP communication via Modbus Gateway

Riyaz123 Regular Member Joined: 7/30/2015 Last visit: 9/5/2025 Posts: 3 Rating: (0)	Hii All, I want to communicate S7-200 Smart PLC with 3 no's Energy meters (EM6400NG) which are connected to a Modbus gateway (Seneca - R KEY LT). I have checked the data on Modbus Poll and the data is coming. I am using MBUS_CLIENT block to communicate the S7200 smart PLC with Energy meters. To address a specific energy meter I need to use the slave ID. By default it is 255 is what I have read in the documentation. Also as per documentation, the parameter mModbusUnitID needs to be changed to address a specific slave. How do I assign a unit id to this parameter and how does it relates to the function block. I want to communicate all 3 energy meters at the same time. How do I do the slave ID addressing. Can I use 3 different TCP client blocks. Looking for somebody to help me out here.

Hazard_7 Advanced Member Joined: 5/30/2022 Last visit: 9/3/2025 Posts: 634 Rating: (103)	Hi Riyaz123, In the following application example I have not found reference to the UNIT_ID, which is used to communicate via Modbus through a gateway, so I do not know if such communication is possible, you may have to look at a S7-1200 that does have that option in the MB_CLIENT block: How do you implement MODBUS communication with S7-200? What is the function of the "MB_UNIT_ID" in the instance data block of the Modbus block "MB_CLIENT"?

On other side I try to help you with my screenshor inside attachment, also it can be found inside documentation also. In case of use gateway, Unit_ID (formal RTU address) is simply required, you can't do any communication without to have set correct Slave address behind Gateway box. AutoGen_3495163 Joined: 4/6/2021 Last visit: 3/26/2025 Posts: 1 Rating: (0)	In the Symbol table: Modbus TCP Client, look for mModbusUnitID VB1651. Change before MBUS_CLIENT VB1651 to the ID number you want.
