PC Data??

JeepMonkey Posts: 2 Rating: (0)	Hi all, I have a vision inspection machine with a 313C-2DP processor connected to an MP 277 through the MPI bus. This machine also has a PC onboard to control the cameras and run the custom vision software. Communication between the PC and the PLC is limited to discreet I/O. My problem is this ... I need to monitor the part number selected in the PC so I can get a clean changover in all the downstream automated processes. Is there any way to get an event triggered connection to the LAN port of the HMI that I can write to a tag in the HMI application? I only need the connection when the part no. is changed and I can get a trigger for that from the PC as well as any data I want from them. I just have no idea if it's possible. It would be much cleaner if I had ethernet available on the PLC but I don't. Hopefully somone can tell me if it can be done through the back door this way. Thanks~

If you need onlya ethernet communication beween the PC and the PLC, then you can usea ethernet CP. Maybe there are more possibilities to solve your problem. Which interfaces has the vision system? Only the IO-interface? Can you save the part no. in a text file on the PC? Bye

JeepMonkey Posts: 2 Rating: (0)	The only communication between the PC and PLC is discrete I/O. The Profibus network is limited to remote nodes throughout the rest of the automation. I believe I can get the part number as a text fileif that is the best way. The company that wrote the vision software (it is a custom application) has told me they can give me any info I want in whatever format I need if I can finda way to get it into my application. I am open to ideas. Cost is a major prohibitive factor, so I was hoping to be able to send the part number from the PC to the HMI and have the PLC monitor it from there. Maybe there is no good way to do that. I know itwouldbe messy if it can be done at all. Thanks Zak.
