marwanco62 Posts: 53 Rating: (2)	Hi All, I've connected encoder to I0,I1, and can read the pulses, around 2 pulses per second, do I need HSC or I'm fine with normal I inputs. What is the advantage of HSC in my case? If I want to remember the pulse count when plc is off, what I have to do? Thanks.

Darius Platinum Member Joined: 9/28/2005 Last visit: 12/9/2025 Posts: 2957 Rating: (243)	Hello, Depending on CPU model HSC can handle up to 30kHz - it is 30000 pulses per second. 2 pulses per second will handle normal inputs as well, but therefore it also depends on your program. Your program scan must not exceed 250 ms.

marwanco Posts: 15 Rating: (0)	Thank you for reply, I've noticed with direct inputs I'm loosing some pulses, specialy when rotate the encoder shaft with high acceleration with my finger. Slowmotion seems ok. So HSC the way to go. Now I haveabunch of encoders that are rejected from system asemblers,I don't think all are bad, and I need tofind a way to test each encoder, what about just compare the count of phase A and B,they shouldbe always same, right? Then I can give the asemblers a simple system S7-200 PLC +T2000 display, so they can test and decide on the spot, may be before installing the encoder, takes time to replace. Thank you for reading, Any comments are welcome.

You should take in account pulse width also. If pulse width must be two times longer than your program scan to be able to catch it with normal inputs.
