Why can I not load step7 v5.4 sp4 on the same machine as Rockwell software?

Wulfgar Posts: 42 Rating: (3)	Both Siemens and Rockwell assume their software is the only software you use and take over your computer by installing services that run all the time. Rockwell would always tie up the serial port if I did not have the dreade Harmony service shut down. I'm not as familiar with Siemens as I'm just starting a Siemens project. You have 3 choices: 1) Constantly disable and enable the services that each need when you want to run then. I did that for several years on my old laptop, I became very familiar with the Rockwell services and using msconfig on WinXp, it's a big pain. 2) You could dual boot but that could be a pain. 3) Use VmWare or some other virtual OS program. I'm currently using this option on my new laptop. I have Windows 7 as the host OS, I then installed WinXP as a guest and colone it for each brand. One for Rockwell, Siemens, Omron so far. This gives each their own sandbox to play in since Rockwell and Siemens do not know how to share. Omron installs no services so I could of put it on the host, and they now support Windows 7. Wulfgar Posts: 42 Rating: (3)	Tiago, It may not be an issue for you since your only using Rockwell's older software. Rockwell Factory View and RsLinx Enterprise which use the Harmony service were the biggest problem programs for me. It would always tie up the serial port even when using only ethernet.
