data access from third party app

ragnarok Posts: 70 Rating: (2)	hello, Is it possible to give a third party application access to wincc flexible tags? Both hmi runtime and the other application would run on the same PC. I would like to do an applicaion wherein the hmi could generate an event on the other program (probably to be done with VB 2010) and vise versa. thanks.

dchartier Grandmaster Joined: 9/27/2006 Last visit: 1/16/2026 Posts: 12481 Rating: (2722)	Hello ragnarok; You could use the WinCC Flexible OPC connections, setup the panel as a OPC server, and create (or dowload code for) am OPC client for your VB application: SIMATIC HMI WinCC flexible 2008 Communication Part 1: http://support.automation.siemens.com/WW/view/en/18797552 To communicate using the OPC communication driver, WinCC flexible has a suitable COM interface over which data can be exchanged between automation systems. An HMI device can be used either as an OPC server or OPC client. As an OPC client, the HMI device can connect to a maximum of 8 OPC servers. Hope this helps, Daniel Chartier
