System configuration problem

merdogmus Posts: 13 Rating: (0)	Hello Siemens Forum users, I have a problem for choosing a system for a machine. I want to build a system that communicates between 2 plc and VFD's that communicates with these plc's (don't want to use analog mode at VFD's). Also an HMI which communicates both of them. I know that I can use profibus as a communication mode and handle it easily. But machine is not a big one and all the things are close to eachother. The slave plc will be at the top of a rotating machine which uses 6 encoders and main plc controls other devices. Because of this I have to use 2 PLC and a communication between them. The thing that I want to know is: can I use s7-200 plc's and USS communication for VFD's. For HMI I want to use a touch-screen with RS485 from non-Siemens brand. Is this possible? And for HMI we use Weintek Easyview 6056i. I can also use Siemens OP. As i said, I use it only for entering the values for prosess. Not controlling it. As you can see i want to communicate those two PLC and HMI at one time, one bus (MPI?). Is it possible at s7-200? It would really reduce the costs.

Thanks for answers already. -Mehmet Erdogmus Hello merdogmus, Everything is possible. It's a matter of how much it will cost. For your system, I think you have to think first with your 6 encoders. And if you used CPU 224 / 226, you have 6 HSC and take into consideration that two of them are only clock HSC (HSC3 & HSC5). Please have a look onSIMATIC S7-200 Quick Reference Card CPU22x And you did not told us if the 6 encoders should be connected to one PLC or both. Tell us please. So if it should connected to one PLC and it's not acceptable to use HSC3 & HSC5 then you have to go to S7-300 solution. I have also another question for you. If we go to S7-300 solution, I think we can make a distruibuted I/O station instead of using two different CPUs. You can use CPU314C-2DP with One FM350-2 to handle the 6 encoders. And connect the drives via Profibus communication. Or you can have two CPU313C-2DP, VSD is connected via Profibus. Two PLCs are connected to eachother via MPI communication (GD-communication) to exchange data between eachother. Simatic Panel (HMI) is connected via MPI to both PLCs. All you have to do in its software is to define two CPUs in communication in WinCC flex. project. You can have a mix between CPU S7-200 & S7-300 CPU. I think that the following links will be useful for you. And please tell us what do you think about the encoders? What should you watch out for when setting up a connection between S7-200 and SIMATIC Panels or WinCC flexible PC Runtime and what are the options? How can you communicate data between the S7-200 and the S7-300 via PROFIBUS DP? How does data communication work between S7-300/S7- 400 and S7-200 via MPI using S7 basic communication? How can you diagnose an error in the communications between an S7-200 and a MICROMASTER 4 via Port 0 (RS485)? How do you install a communications connection between an S7-200 and a MICROMASTER 4 via Port 0 (RS485) with EMC and overvoltage protection? Hope this helps.

I looked it and it says that I can use 6 encoders max. at CPU 226 (HC0 to HC5 for mode 0) 3. I think 2 PLC is better solution. Becouse there are valves for vacuum also. I did not mentioned that (thought it is not necessary). It is cheaper not to use Profibus module for PLC and drivers. Thats why I want to use USS communication. Drivers has its own communication capability. Otherwise, have to buy profibus module for driver also. 4. It is also could be but we are looking for cheaper solution 5. I just saw that one at the PDF file which you gave the link. It is useful. 6. Thinking of that, but if i can do it just with s7-200's it would be much more easier and cheaper. Much appreciate for your help.

Helmut_13 Posts: 2930 Rating: (432)	Hi, for USS communication a seperate onboard Interface is necessary. So at leat you need on PLC with two Onboard interfaces (224CP or 226). At the second port you can use PPI to exchange data between the PLC's and also a HMI can be used. (Siemens will work). But it should also be possible with a single S7-200 PLC. 224XP or 226. I also agree you should check the new S7-1200 series. Hope this helps

merdogmus Posts: 13 Rating: (0)	Problem solved (theoratically at least) I will use S7-1200 CPU, RS485 and profibus module and IM151 for distributed I/O with profibus communication and also its HSC modules. By this configuration, I reduce the costs, check the system after installation easily and use only 1 CPU. Thanks for help!
