Change symbolinfo in variabel decl. in FB

I have been reading alot around the possible drawbacks from changing the interface of FC\FB etc. I have also tested alot when it comes to changing the symbolinformation (name and comment) in the declaration view of an FB. What I have found is that changing the variabel name and symbol is OK, but changing the type and initial value is NOT, which is logical. (eventhough changing from BOOL to BOOL also produces an interface timestamp change!) Today me and my collegue tested this on his eng. station, and by changing the variable name only, this produced an interface change timestamp! How is this possible?

Aret Posts: 2348 Rating: (265)	Well, according to my knowledge changing name only does not require regeneration and updating. I always insert some reserved variables in FB STAT section for this reason - if i need them i just rename one of reserved ones. It would be interesting if your colleague could repeat and describe it step-by-step. Also wondering on S7 software version.

SIMATIC Programming with STEP 7 V5.5 Programming with STEP7 Interface Time stamp The time stamp is updated: • When the interface description is changed (changes to data types or initial values, new parameters) • When an ASCII source file is created for the first time and compiled, if the interface is changed structurally. • The time stamp is not updated: • When symbols are changed • When comments in the variable declaration are changed • When changes are made in the TEMP area Rules for Block Calls • The interface time stamp of the called block must be older than the code time stamp of the calling block.

Testermax Posts: 159 Rating: (3)	It might be that he hit "enter" key when focus was in the Data type field. I believe this is considered as entering a new datatype, and this creates an interface change
