PCU50 Freeze

CAT EL Posts: 7 Rating: (1)	Hello, I have and installation of 11 machines networked with profibus / TCP/IP.Five of the machines havea PCU 50.2/840D five machines have PCU 50.3/840D and the are served by a pallet system ran by a 840Di. It has ran several years with few problems. Recently one of the PCU50,2 HMI's has froze three times in two days. The 840D stays functional, the machine can be jogged but the screen doesn't respond to softkeys or a external keyboard and using the standard Windows Control+Alt+Delete has no effect. I have no overtemp or related faults on restart. I want to know if I can run a scan disk and defragment the hard drivewithout causing more problems than I have now? I knowdoing thisto a PC with Step 7 wipes out the software key and I don't want to go from a machine that is annoying to a machine that is dead. If thingsgo terribly wrong Ihave a Ghost copy of the hard drive. The machine manufacturer will be in house in two weeks but Iasked themachine builders’ technician if standard windows disk maintenance tools would be a problem. He did not know and was not eager to find out on a running machine. I would appreciate any help or advice you could offer. Thank you. It is a SINUMERIK PCU 50, 1P 6FC5210-0DF22-2AA0, VERSION A
