monitoring online code changes

riss Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	I have a number of S7 PLC's in a plant where temporary online codemodificationsare made to ensure continued plant operation in the event of non-critical instrumentation failure. The code is changed online only and not to the offline master copy of the code. Ineed tominimise the risk ofthese changes being 'forgotten about' and or inadvertent dwonloading of the offline code therfore overwriting any online changes. There is a requirement for an automated 'review' of the online code (be it on a schedule or at time of change) and some kind of notification raised (maybe email, or simply a tag change inside the code to indicate an online change has taken place) to indicate an online change has been made. Is there existing functionality to provide this type of online code monitoring or is there some internal register that can be checked for modifications to the online code? Or is there some recommended software that can perform this online code checking automatically?

Aret Posts: 2348 Rating: (265)	Well, as for manual quick check you can use blocks checksum. To compare in details - use Compare blocks function (right click on blocks->Compare blocks->Online/Offline). As for automatic routine - well you can detect blocks total size change by means of SFC51 inside PLC and generate message - but this won't work if you don't change block size (for ex. you replaced reading of M0.0 with M0.1). Also i can recommend to look at Command Interface and ProDave library for C, but really unsure if they can read FC and FB.

riss Posts: 5 Rating: (0)	Hi yes the FB worked really well and has been implemented on all the customers plant PLC's. I removed the code in the FB thatmade entriesinto the diagnostics buffer & just used the checksum comparison to set a tag - masked for an hour afterwards to prevent multiple on/off during many changes in a short time.I then used this tag to generate anemailnotification viascada so all interested parties were notified immediately of any change. It detects any online code change which is great. It doesn't indicate what or where the change was madebut just knowing a change has been madewas good enough for our purposes.
