Dob Posts: 40 Rating: (0)	Hi I heard there is a free software for S7-300 CPUs,i need it only for troubleshooting purposes,so it is not worth to pay a few K $s for a real soft,...i have local rack + 4 Profibus slaves,will this soft work for that?,what are limitations?,i would appreciate if somebody could post a download link. Are e-bay/cheap programming cables good enough? Thanks.

I suggest you contact your local Siemens rep. https://www.automation.siemens.com/partner/index.asp?HTTPS=REDIR&regid=WW&lang=en&comptcid=o And discus the problem with them to get a good solution. Are e-bay/cheap programming cables good enough? Thanks. Hello Dob, Yes, there is a software available and known as STEP 7 Lite, but still that can be used only with stand alone configurations. Even you can't work with point to point communications hence PROFIBUS is ruled out. Still there are rental licenses available which may be ideal for you.

Jazz_M Posts: 1121 Rating: (86)	Hi Well you can contact your local siemens support for the CD of Step7 for a 14 days trail licence. you can use this trail licence for communication purpose. As far as cheap Communication cable is conserned I am not sure though , it may damage your exisiting Controller component. it is recommended to go for a MPI adapter that does not cost much in comparing the controller price. Have fun....

Hello Dob, As i told already, if your project has a PROFIBUS configuration configured, then it may not open in STEP 7 Lite. In other words, STEP 7 Liteproject may be openable in STEP 7 Professional whereas vice versa may not work.
